Thursday, June 1 Board Meeting Starts at 7 pm for Update on National Register

Peter Kurtze of the Maryland Historical Trust will update the Board and community on New Mark’s application to the National Register of Historic Places at 7 pm on June 1, during the Community Forum, which will start half an hour earlier than usual. Mr. Kurtze will be discussing the revised historic boundary required by the National Park Service and what it all means to our community. (See full story in the May issue of the New Mark News).

Board Adopts Final 2017 Budget with Smaller Dues Increase

The New Mark Commons Board of Directors on April 6 unanimously adopted a final 2017 budget that reduces earlier projected expenditures and results in an average 8% increase in resident dues.

Board members said they wanted to signal to the community that they had heard the protests late last year against proposed increases of at least twice that amount. In the face of strong opposition, the Board withdrew that proposal and voted instead to hold expenses at the 2016 level as an interim measure.

Under the new 2017 budget, homeowners will incur an annual dues increase ranging from $76 to $94.

Refund by Insurance Settlement Spares NMC Huge Financial Outlay for SWM Fee

New Mark’s financial situation got a large reprieve this week when the insurance company that handles business for the Homes Association agreed to cover the mandated refund to townhome owners for stormwater management fees.

John Daroff, the new Board of Directors President, announced the good news at the monthly board meeting on April 6. He said that the USLI Insurance company had agreed that very day to pay out up to $219 per townhome for each of 198 townhome owners, which could amount to a maximum of $43,362.
