The New Mark Commons Homes Association Board of Directors voted unanimously Thursday evening, September 7, to select Abaris Realty, Inc. of Potomac for future NMC property management services, ending a half century of administrative management provided by paid staff selected from NMC residents.
In the resolution, the Board said that the base cost for management services may not exceed $70,000.00 per year without further Board action. Subject to negotiation, the contract would be for a minimum of one year and maximum of two years, the Board said. The firm offers a list of services, from which the Board can select to tailor the final contract to NMC’s specific needs and priorities.
The action follows Administrator Jim Denny’s decision in May to retire. Jim, who has served as administrator for 15 years and as a part-time employee for about 10 years before that, was the last of three administrators who have kept the community running from their home offices since administrative management of the community was turned over to residents in 1973.
The Board named a negotiating team of Board President John Daroff, Treasurer/Secretary David Schwartzman and at-large member Kathleen Moran to discuss final arrangements with Abaris. The family-owned company’s offices are near the Park Potomac complex at the intersection of Seven Locks and Montrose roads.
A full report will appear in the paper newsletter to be delivered later this month.
